After a century or so of talk therapy, countless psychological ideas have taken root in our common lexicon. Many definitions have fared poorly over time, though; complex ideas sent through a game of telephone from the original literature to the mainstream.
“Individuation,” for instance, can be easily confused with individualism when the entire notion is rather the opposite. Individuation is a concept that, as I wrote a tiny bit about on Wednesday, has cross-cultural relevance and has to do with maturation and evolution, not ego inflation. This is not a Western fad of personal branding. Nor is it a wellness culture trope. It’s a natural process of psychological growth that is understood in different ways worldwide.
Join me tomorrow, Sunday, at 10am PDT | 1pm EDT | 5pm UK to explore. Link below.
Ask Me Anything
While the topic for this monthly gathering is individuation and I’ll speak a bit about this at the top of the hour, I’m also very interested to know what’s on your mind.
I’d love to answer any questions you may have: maybe on an idea within Jungian psychology, maybe something related to Quarterlife, Stability and Meaning, or maybe it’s a personal question you’d love to explore a bit with me and some lovely souls.
These monthly one-hour gatherings for paid subscribers provide space for us to be together in an intergenerational community, learn a little, and reflect on life in this complex world.
If you are not yet a paid subscriber and would like to join tomorrow, you can upgrade anytime and the registration link will become visible to you below. You’ll also receive the link directly in your subscription confirmation email.
*If finances would prohibit you from joining but you want to be there, please reply to this email or send me a note at satyadoylebyock@ substack.com ASAP. I’ll comp you a subscription. I operate on trust for this and don’t need an explanation, just honesty. xo
